Meet Zev

After his childhood home was destroyed by an earthquake in 1992, Zev learned just how difficult it is to be displaced from your home. That is why he has dedicated his legal career to protecting the citizens of his hometown of Santa Monica from losing their homes and preserving the diverse fabric of the Los Angeles community.

Prior to law school, Zev worked in property management as a licensed real estate broker. During this time, he learned first hand how tenants should be treated by property management companies. However, he was also exposed to the many issues that tenants face on a daily basis throughout Southern California.

Zev focused much of his coursework in law school on property law to learn as much about tenants rights as possible. After graduation, he secured a job at Tesser, Ruttenberg & Grossman, LLP where he worked on landlord/tenant cases involving issues of habitability, wrongful eviction and mold exposure.

Through his representation of tenants, Zev found great satisfaction in helping individuals and families enforce their legal rights against bad-acting landlords. In many cases, his clients did not have the ability to fix or repair issues that impacted the quality of their homes. Additionally, they were worried about losing their homes for raising attention to those issues.

As a founding partner of Schwimer Weinstein and leader of its tenants rights practice, Zev enjoys helping tenants both in and out of the courtroom - educating both clients and landlords about their various reciprocal duties so that tenants can peacefully enjoy their home.

On a more personal level, Zev has had many friends and family members who have lived in rent controlled apartments in Santa Monica. As a tenants rights attorney, he works diligently to ensure that they can continue to call Santa Monica home, enjoy its beaches and contribute to its rich and vibrant culture.

Zav has been honored as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2013 through 2019 for handling matters related to the firm’s tenants rights practice, and was named to the Super Lawyers Top 100 Personal Injury Attorneys in Southern California in 2020. Zev is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum for the top trial attorneys in America, achieving results for tenants of over $1 million.

No two tenants rights cases are the same. Each involves different issues such as contract law, personal injury, rent control, and property ownership rights. They are nuanced and complex, and should be handled by an experienced tenants rights attorney. If you are experiencing habitability issues, rent control issues or possible eviction, contact Zev today to get the representation you need.
